The emerging light therapy technology uses infrared energy to provide patients with a temporary increase in blood circulation, temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches, pains and stiffness, relaxation of muscles and temporary relief of minor pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. Wavelengths between 660 and 1,000 nm are used for this purpose. Light emitted by the laser diode penetrates deepest followed by the superluminous diode (SLDs) and then the light emitting diode (LEDs).
The Mettler Electronics Laser Sys*Stim is a therapeutic laser that comes with a 785 nm laser probe with visible blue LEDs that illuminate the treatment field. An optional SLD/LED cluster probe with 950 nm SLDs and 660 nm LEDs is also available. The battery is included with all units to allow the clinician to take light therapy directly to the patient.
